"Only Whores can be Heroes" in A Fistful of Monkeys
The lovely people at Monkey Kettle have published my story, “Only Whores can be Heroes”, as part of their book of western short stories entitled A Fistful of Monkeys. “Only Whores can be Heroes” is about ruthless bounty hunter called Charlotte Coal, and evil banker, and a terrible secret under the town of Liberty station, and it is packed in with almost 200 hundred pages of six-shooters, action and excitement that can be bought via Lulu here. Exciting stuff.
Monkey Kettle started out as a poetry magazine back in 1999 and evolved into a Milton Keynes art collective with art exhibitions, theatre productions, some really very cool music and all sorts of other stuff. You can find them on Facebook here.
Working with the Monkey Kettle team was a really good experience. I got detailed and thoughtful feedback on my story, and it was a pleasure working together with the guys to improve and tighten the story. It was honestly some of the most useful conversations I’ve had about my writing.
They have a bi-annaul poetry and short story magazine, that has some excellent stuff in it, and they are also looking for submissions for a new collection of short stories on the theme “crime.” Stories should be between 1000 and 10,000 words long and submitted to firstname.lastname@example.org by 1 September 2014. I highly recommend taking a look.
